A Seat at the Table:
Reflections and Recipes from Sarah Maldoror's Un Dessert Pour Constance

A Dessert for Constance (1979), originally made for French television, carries the hallmark anti-hierarchical ethos of her oeuvre but stands apart both for its mirthful, abounding humour, and distance from a site of active combat. It follows the misadventures of two Senegalese street sweepers living in Paris: Mamadou, played by Guinean filmmaker Cheik Doukouré, and Bokolo, played by Ivorian actor Sidiki Bakaba.

This latest instalment from Éditions Atlas features essays and recipes from writers Elhum Shakerifar, June Givanni, Phuong Le, as well as an introduction from Brixton Community Cinema founder Abiba Coulibaly.

This publication was generously supported by, and conceived for a collaboration with, London Migration Film Festival. The annual festival exists to challenge negative rhetoric about migration, and to present poignant stories reinstating the humanity of people on the move.
