Sarita4eva is Brixton Community Cinema's mini retrospective of the early filmography of British-Bengali actor Sarita Choudhury, and her embodiment of all that is subversive, sapphic, and sirenesque.
(Re)emerging in the popular consciousness via recent roles in And Just Like That.. and Ramy, Sarita4eva recalls Choudhury's early work, showcasing her enduring allure as a queer cyber hactivist (Fresh Kill) and the headstrong, lovestruck daughter of Ugandan-Indians forced to relocate to the Deep South opposite Denzel Washington (Mississippi Masala). An additional essay on Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love in which she plays an alienated Raiput princess was commissioned, although the film was not screened as part of the season as we felt an analysis of its sexual politics was the
most constructive way to revisit the title.
Within the pages are commissioned artwork by iconic duo Athen Kardashian & Nina Mach Durban.
